March is Polite Pets Month to raise awareness in the community about behavioural issues in pets.
This year we will be focusing on phobias and anxiety disorders and will be promoting the notion that ‘mental health is important for pets’. Anxiety disorders and phobias can be extremely frustrating for owners and can cause distress in pets that leads to soiling around the home, aggression and destruction.
If your pet has a behavioral issue, it is vital that it is addressed as soon as possible to prevent it getting worse. A thorough health examination with a Veterinarian is required to ensure that your pet does not have any underlying illness causing the behavior. Once they are given a medical clearance, a plan can be made to address the behavior.
We have Information and Facts sheets available on a range of behavior problems that can be picked up from the clinic during the month of March.
